[00:04:23] the manga continues to hurt us and apparently I saw like a one tweet that there's a train somewhere
[00:04:33] I think in Japan that is that has MHA on it like it's an MHA train for a limited time. Like an ad
[00:04:41] or like the train offers a like some sort of MHA themed experience? Somewhere in the middle
[00:04:48] because like the whole train is painted or like has a skin of MHA I don't know. I was confused
[00:04:57] but supportive. I do love a train I really love a good train. Also as of this recording the cover
[00:05:05] for the volume of the volume 40 of the manga god it just dropped and it hurts me but it's
[00:05:14] also so beautiful. We'll describe it in the big spoiler section because it is quite spoilery.
[00:05:21] Oh yeah quite quite all right well this week we're covering episode seven of my hero academia
[00:05:28] season four titled go with a bunch of exclamation points and in the manga this is chapters 137
[00:05:38] and 138 so I'm gonna lead us through a quick synopsis and I think there is no science corner right Maria?
[00:05:45] No science. Thankfully this was a very very quick episode so my brain didn't have to think
[00:05:55] listeners my brain is fried like it's been a rough couple of days it was like fun and then rough
[00:06:02] so brainwashed. Your personal life is popping off right now in all sorts of ways. I know it's a hard
[00:06:10] life but it's fine um but next week listeners next well not next week next see wrap is sewed I guess
[00:06:19] there's gonna be a lot of science so it'll make up this week. Amazing I can't wait um so after
[00:06:26] we skip the science corner Nicole will jump in for discussion topics manga differences and
[00:06:30] easter eggs and then we'll wrap up the episode with our big spoiler section as we mentioned.
[00:06:36] So going into the synopsis we open with Isuku, Ochako, Sue and Kirishima training as hard as
[00:06:43] they possibly can so they can participate in the Shia Hesai-Kai mission and help rescue Ari
[00:06:49] so they are just really busting their asses and we get this really cute moment between Izuku,
[00:06:55] Iida and Shoto because Izuku is upset about Ari and all my supposed impending death and just
[00:07:04] all the all the feelings he's having so many feelings and Iida offers to help him talk it out
[00:07:10] and Izuku starts to cry and then he admonishes himself for crying he's like heroes don't cry
[00:07:16] but Shoto's like no man you can cry I feel like heroes probably do cry it's just oh
[00:07:20] it's so cute it's adorable it's very sweet. It's all so adorable and supportive and also where
[00:07:26] are the confidential counselors and therapists Nezu you rat I feel you I thought you were supposed
[00:07:34] to be caring for the students now that they're in the dorm system you're a rat and I hate you
[00:07:39] they need therapy yes they do I know we mentioned this further down but Shoto offering him his soba
[00:07:46] I was crying legit like I started to feel a tickle I'm crying I don't actually cry listeners very
[00:07:55] very rarely do I cry but anyways I felt a tickle we all know how much he loves his soba and then
[00:08:02] he offers it to Izuku and my boy has grown so much oh god it was so kind such a gesture
[00:08:09] it just uh they're all friends and I love them and then the freaking Shia Hisaikai mission like begins
[00:08:18] already like I know we're seven episodes into this season but somehow it just still feels like it
[00:08:24] took like no time at all to get to this point so I have a feeling the mission takes way longer
[00:08:30] than it did in my head yeah yeah I mean it doesn't help that they just kind of
[00:08:35] brush over the fact that there are multiple weeks between some of these seven episodes
[00:08:42] yeah yeah it's uh the timing is kind of wild yeah kind of wild um because because Hora Koshy
[00:08:49] doesn't include the calendar in the manga like I told him he should um after the fact
[00:08:57] they also mentioned that Tokugami is still in Kyushu and is he just it's he like not actually
[00:09:03] in class or is he going from class to the work study like on the train like the others were
[00:09:09] Hora Koshy I need you to give me all the children's schedules the whole calendar
[00:09:16] maybe he's just taking remote classes or you know like those paper assignments they sometimes give out
[00:09:22] yeah maybe I saw was like here's all your work for the week go have fun in Kyushu I don't know
[00:09:29] go go go try not to murder your work study instructor oh man I can't wait to get to that point
[00:09:36] Tokugami just wants to be his emo self and then look who he got with
[00:09:46] oh man I can't wait I can't wait um but yeah basically they figured out Ari's location because
[00:09:53] her new caretaker caretaker 69 was buying a ton of like little girl toys to try to like
[00:10:00] play Kate Ari and make sure she wouldn't run off um and Natae runs into him while he's buying one of
[00:10:06] these toys and he decides to use his foresight after all to see if the toy was for Ari um
[00:10:12] and his vision does confirm where she was and how to get to her very convenient so they just
[00:10:19] get everyone assembled around the compound and they get ready to start the raid yes yes but more
[00:10:25] importantly Fatgum who he and Rocklock are just so perfectly just miffed at night eye yes Kings
[00:10:34] always Fatgum is just like how do you know for sure that was for Ari this guy could probably
[00:10:40] just be like a bronie or a magical girl fan he says in the in the dub different strokes
[00:10:46] for different folks and yes sir yes king defend him indeed indeed yeah I am I got this hand cannon
[00:10:54] while I was writing these notes but I Fatgum probably has a bunch of stuff he's on his bed
[00:11:00] which honestly I understand I have a giant Snorlax and he is the best pillow hands down
[00:11:07] agreed agreed I mean Fatgum is essentially a giant walking talking stuffed animal so
[00:11:15] he probably relates also I love that night I was like um I already thought of that so screw you
[00:11:22] so they hate each other it's because they're all gay yeah yeah different types of gay though
[00:11:32] yeah like you think they'd be able to hang out because they're like mesh with the with
[00:11:37] the different types but no they just hate each other yeah yeah no they're the kind of gay group
[00:11:43] where it's like it's like you move pets into a room together but you don't properly introduce them
[00:11:49] first so all they do is fight yep yep valid it's not the sexual attention I'm just gonna go with that
[00:11:57] sure sure why not um so we got a quick cut to overhaul and a couple of his people being forewarned
[00:12:06] about the raid and then we cut back to the heroes and we learn about this like giant fucking labyrinth
[00:12:14] under the compound and night eye because of his vision knows the quickest way through this compound
[00:12:20] to get to airy uh again very convenient so everyone just like gears up to get started yes and also
[00:12:27] Fatgum gives Tomiki some swordfish or marlin to eat for the mission itself and I was just
[00:12:34] struck by the mental image of Tomiki with a sword nose just immediately just a sword coming out of
[00:12:42] this space not even not even necessarily like a swordfish or marlin nose just a sword coming out
[00:12:50] of his face yes yeah so that made me think of the fish guy from live action one piece
[00:12:59] yes yes still haven't seen that but yeah totally oh yes yes maria you are correct yes exactly i'm
[00:13:08] always correct when it comes to anime exactly and that's why you were pressed ganged into a podcast
[00:13:16] yep yep yep so then we cut back to overhaul who apologizes to an older gentleman in a hospital
[00:13:22] bed um he says things are about to get noisy and the police outside are about to read out the warrant
[00:13:29] to search the premises when some members of if uh Shia his psyche come just bursting out the door
[00:13:36] and start attacking so they're like fuck it we're gonna bring the fight to them we're not gonna
[00:13:40] wait around so this triggers a battle outside but night eye leads all of the main characters
[00:13:47] all the ones who are important to the plot into the compound and meanwhile overhaul in one of his
[00:13:54] cronies i forget any of their names are prepping we don't need to know all their names there's so many
[00:14:02] and they all wear masks i look i'm already i'm already face blind i can't do this um but yeah
[00:14:08] they are prepping quirk quirk canceling bullets to use on the heroes yes yes all of this is
[00:14:15] very important but also fat gum like at at the time that the shia psyche villains or criminals
[00:14:22] come bursting out it sends some of the cops just flying through the air um and fat gum
[00:14:27] manages to like grab one of the cops and just kind of hug him to catch him and oh to be that cop
[00:14:35] only time you've ever wanted to be a cop yep yep man's was living our dream for real
[00:14:40] mm-hmm also at some point somebody says in the crowd outside the gate how did they know we were here
[00:14:48] and i'm like sir you there is a literal crowd of people some of whom are in swat gear just standing
[00:14:57] outside their front door how do they not know you're there like yeah you don't have any element
[00:15:03] of surprise what are you thinking and they're not being quiet and they hang out for a while
[00:15:09] before they decide to do anything like yeah this is not this is not stealthy my dude
[00:15:15] my guy my dude they are they're just looking through the window like hmm i think we're about
[00:15:19] to get raided because they've been standing here for 30 fucking minutes yeah no shit anyway
[00:15:26] anyway one of the like new heroes on the scene like i guess one of the more minor heroes he
[00:15:31] has a haresword quirk and i want that one oh yes okay i need to give give me a second i
[00:15:38] need to take part in outside because he is wining in my face right now no more yeah let me pause the
[00:15:46] recording all right so on two things of note in the episode and the first one again kaseki
[00:15:55] continues to be jealous of the work study students and their progress and it continues
[00:15:59] to be hilarious and yes i am going to bring it up every single time it comes up because i think
[00:16:04] it's funny because it's hilarious he's he's just so dumb and sweet and i love him but also like at
[00:16:12] this point like he was asking what they learned on their work studies and they're climbing a rock
[00:16:17] wall and i'm like when did they learn to climb the rock wall fast or well while they were just
[00:16:25] walking around on patrol like i'm very confused how it how it conflates yeah well i assumed if
[00:16:33] they're like constantly running after people they are bound to get more stamina and also it is all that
[00:16:39] walking yes but i also i also did a lot of walking when i was in college and i could not climb the
[00:16:47] rock wall at the gym until the end of the year so like how much walking are these children doing
[00:16:54] i think it's more of a mental thing like something about the work studies and getting
[00:16:59] real life experience is toughening them up mentally so they're more successful in their
[00:17:04] everyday assignments like they happened to be climbing a rock wall in that moment but katsuki
[00:17:10] wasn't talking about the rock wall i feel i feel like uh he was because he's katsuki but okay i will
[00:17:17] accept your explanation i mean that is true that it is katsuki so that totally could have been
[00:17:25] it but yeah i don't know i guess determination makes you ignore your body's protestations
[00:17:32] and you climb faster it's sure determination means gravity doesn't affect you anymore sure
[00:17:38] sure totally as we all know um also again ita and shoto sharing their food with izuku while
[00:17:48] they were comforting him was just too fucking cute and i was just so proud of izuku for
[00:17:54] accepting their food offerings he was so cute they were like okay we can't talk about whatever's
[00:17:59] going on that's fine we can have some food dopamine so let's do that mm-hmm yep again as mentioned above
[00:18:09] but still relevant and i will fight for this every time the so far the freaking sober
[00:18:15] agreed fully fully agree super super relevant and important what's so but now oh god yes shoto
[00:18:23] we need your soba share with us please mm-hmm someone bring a soba anyway
[00:18:31] at one point right before the attack they kind of cycle through all the various heroes that
[00:18:35] involved and we get a little bit of a glimpse into their day to day life and ryukyu who is
[00:18:40] the dragon lady for anyone who doesn't remember um she's like sitting in a cafe and we see her in
[00:18:46] a casual outfit and she is adorable and i love her and that is my wife mm-hmm yep yep completely
[00:18:54] agree she looks so comfy and adorable and she's just so attractive oh she's so attractive also
[00:19:03] they mentioned that gran terino isn't at the raid because he's got a different assignment that
[00:19:07] concerns the league of villains and we will see what that assignment is in a future episode
[00:19:13] also also these last two points are really really important bo chaco's bed head and nezure using her
[00:19:21] hair like a blanket when they were woken up like super duper early to go to the raid like
[00:19:27] why is everyone so cute they're just little babies because they are little babies
[00:19:33] little babies some i wish i had hair that was asked controlled and as long as hers
[00:19:40] mm-hmm that would be incredible agreed agreed also mario's like determined stimming
[00:19:48] just help i love him he's he's so great he's such a goober he's like narrating his stimming as
[00:19:54] he's doing it and he's like pumping himself up goober goober oh such a goober and that is it for
[00:20:02] the episode all right so again no science this episode so moving right along two discussion
[00:20:08] topics and we're going to start with the fact that uh we were incorrect or wrong or we didn't remember
[00:20:15] correctly which is fair because our collective brains are just full of holes um but in fact
[00:20:21] izuka was actually not allowed to discuss the mission with the kids who are also involved
[00:20:27] in the mission for some reason stupid yeah i guess it's like a security thing like someone
[00:20:33] could overhear especially if like they're still concerned about the the mole or whatever but yeah
[00:20:39] so i guess he wasn't able to emotionally process as well as i assumed he was but at least he got some
[00:20:45] comfort from his friends so it's not all bad yeah i guess but like also poor poor sweet izuku
[00:20:53] he's so he's so baby uh he literally says that all of his the emotions that he has been pushing
[00:21:00] down in order to focus on the mission and like going to school um they literally start to overflow
[00:21:07] and he starts to cry and like it was so accurate because like that is what happens when you suppress
[00:21:12] and repress your emotions babe they're gonna come out you you literally cannot stop them yeah and
[00:21:18] it's gonna be real fucking messy and you're not gonna have any control over the situation at all
[00:21:23] so you might as well let it go in a controlled and safe environment yes with your friends
[00:21:29] let it go no no elsa literally the opposite lesson we are trying to learn elsa
[00:21:40] also again nezu you rat i i know in my head canon that izawa is like trying to get his
[00:21:48] students help and like whatever they need for this ridiculous adult mission they are now a part of
[00:21:54] but i just know that nezu is just like none there you know we need more robots thank you and i i just
[00:22:00] want to punch him i want to punch the rat man oh man he's such a little rat i hate him anyway so
[00:22:12] the next discussion point was added by fern and it's basically like something something something
[00:22:17] izuka crying is good oh yeah okay i figured out what i was trying to say sorry i was like
[00:22:23] so fucking tired whenever with these notes but like i think we might have discussed this in like
[00:22:30] either a catch the fuck episode catch the fuck up episode or like a previous regular episode but
[00:22:35] like you know how um all might is always smiling and that makes people feel safe but that also makes
[00:22:43] people feel complacent and like they don't owe it to themselves to help protect themselves or help
[00:22:49] themselves and like izuku's crying is kind of the opposite like it humanizes him and others
[00:22:57] and thus encourages them to do their part too mm-hmm yeah it's literally like um the picks our
[00:23:04] movie inside out where they're they're trying to figure out what the point of sadness even is
[00:23:10] and one of them is that when you're sad you you basically are calling on your support system to
[00:23:17] come help you it's like yeah that that's what it's for yeah that we can't just smile through
[00:23:22] everything all night he tried he tried so hard and he almost died yeah several times um anyway
[00:23:32] also what i was going to bring to the conversation before fern knew what point they were trying to make
[00:23:39] i went in a completely different direction in that like the crybaby character trope in anime it's
[00:23:45] very much a thing with izuku but Horakoshi is actually using it and like examining it
[00:23:52] with izuku and the characters around him to actually like characterize them and build out
[00:23:58] the world so it's like there's a point to it yeah like all of that intention and you know all
[00:24:05] the implications behind that trope he's like okay let's make that a little bit more explicit
[00:24:10] yeah mm-hmm also it helps to remind us that izuku is still a fucking child
[00:24:16] and even though they have unrealistic expectations he is a child processing all the grown up
[00:24:22] shit going on in his life yes yeah that's such an important part of the plot point too yeah
[00:24:28] yes he's literally a baby and also somehow a child soldier yay all right so moving along
[00:24:36] um to the fact that mirio is the uh love child that nighdye and all might never had or did it's
[00:24:42] unclear yeah nighdye is just like he cares about mirio so much fortunately it doesn't give me
[00:24:49] creepy vibes it definitely gives me like dad vibes like oh yeah way toshi is with izuku and i'm like this
[00:24:57] nighdye sees mirio and he's like this is the son we should have had like he just has so much faith
[00:25:03] in him he's such a sweet little blonde beefy himbo it's interesting you say that because
[00:25:09] i just made the connection toshi sees izuku as a son and um izuku and nighdye both have green
[00:25:17] hair while mirio and all might both have blonde hair that's really cute uh i did i put that together
[00:25:25] just now listeners it's and then david there somewhere i don't know yep and the but basically
[00:25:32] nighdye was like he really saw another underdog blonde kid and was like yep yep that is our
[00:25:38] alternate universe child i must adopt him and train him up to take on his father's mantle
[00:25:43] because i am totally connected with reality and i'm fine i don't need therapy
[00:25:50] obviously that's what you do obviously oh man all right so so funny
[00:26:01] all right so moving along to manga differences uh for 137 it's not a difference or anything but
[00:26:06] i just encourage all of you uh for and maria and the listeners to turn to page 170 of the volume
[00:26:14] bind up or page six of chapter 137 on the app and just zoom in on the bottom panel where mineta
[00:26:23] is eating and i just want you to send all your praise to whichever artist drew that particular
[00:26:29] panel it is beautiful it is perfect okay one second let me not going to tell you what it is
[00:26:43] oh that's great i i love that it looks like he's just gonna try to deep throat the whole thing
[00:26:49] yes and it also looks like he has one eyeball what what is happening
[00:26:54] oh this is incredible it's perfect all right and then the only other thing for 137
[00:27:02] is that they expanded on all of the investigation panels in the anime so that's nice they kind of
[00:27:08] beefed it out and then for chapter 131 or chapter 138 i can read i went to college
[00:27:15] 138 in the manga uh when the gate bursts open aizawa actually gives an order to like
[00:27:22] catch the cops and help the cops when they were being smashed into and izuku follows that order
[00:27:28] like as opposed to the two of them just jumping into action at the same time and i can't decide
[00:27:34] which way i like better hmm yeah i don't know i just like both yes all right and then uh riyuki's
[00:27:41] lady friend sidekick was with nejure frappi and uraraka in the manga but she was not in the
[00:27:47] that scene in the anime and i feel like this is homophobia definitely and then uh the henchman
[00:27:55] in the yard who like manipulated the bush into like becoming leaf bullets or whatever
[00:28:02] he actually his quirk is named in in the manga and it's literally called leafipulation
[00:28:07] and the horokoshi like i i know i know you have to call it in sometimes but sir sir no no that's
[00:28:16] perfect i love it fine whatever all right and then and i didn't know this when i mentioned the sword
[00:28:22] hair guy up top but the end of 138 actually introduces the guy with the sword hair um his
[00:28:29] name is mr brave terrible name um his quirk is called hair razor which is amazing um and essentially
[00:28:37] he can like manipulate his hair into whatever shape he needs it to be once he pulls it from his head
[00:28:43] and the description says that he is reminiscent of and or inspired by sun wu kong who is a fictional
[00:28:52] character from a 16th century chinese novel called journey to the west and i immediately added
[00:28:59] it to my tbr because it sounds amazing wait wait that sounds familiar is that a meme right now
[00:29:03] hold on i'm googling this well there it has also been made it's it's been adapted a bunch of times
[00:29:10] including in more recent years um using the name like monkey king yes okay yes yeah i think i think
[00:29:20] gently portrayed him in one adaptation it's like a big thing okay yeah there is currently a meme going
[00:29:27] around on tumblr of course there is that was very funny but i can't remember what the meme was
[00:29:34] oh tumblr anyway moving along to easter eggs um at one point they're they're in the cafeteria
[00:29:40] they're talking they're they're advising each other and and chun lee just walks past in the
[00:29:45] background and who put her there? kora koshi did mom what are you doing also i don't think she was
[00:29:54] she wasn't like as visible in the manga so like somebody specifically in the anime decided
[00:29:59] chun lee needs to make make an appearance well before koshi heard your comment about being sad
[00:30:05] that you couldn't find like any cool shits in the backgrounds so they went ahead and added chun lee
[00:30:10] for you sure because time is linear sure okay all right i'll take that physics all right um and
[00:30:18] then i i just i specifically i personally want there to be some sort of a strike about the
[00:30:24] fact that it is grape bitch and shouji sitting with the three stain dummies um and like like there's
[00:30:31] probably a bisexual 1a club joke somewhere in there because it is manetta but it might be manetta
[00:30:42] it was waiting for it he's so much more fun now that he's bisexual i know even though we

[00:31:38] be perfect together also they keep saying that the league of villains isn't proven to be involved
[00:31:43] in any of this and yet they are to some extent as we will see and as we have already seen so like
[00:31:50] whoever was actually tailing the league of villains they're not doing a good job and they
[00:31:54] need to be retrained well i mean i think they're like we're pretty f**king sure we just don't
[00:31:59] have like hard-ass evidence that would hold up in court yes which means they need to be
[00:32:04] retrained to be able to get that evidence because it seems very f**king obvious

[00:32:54] jesus coded and also it comes back yes yes it does all right and then finally aizawa says that he
[00:33:01] is actually teaming up with the nighdye agency while they are like doing their debrief at the station
[00:33:09] and yes this is actually a reinforcement of how he's doing that just so he can babysit his problem
[00:33:16] child like yes but it is also a quick reminder that aizawa is in fact an underground hero and
[00:33:22] he's not actually legally attached to any agency so i figure when he's actually going out on these
[00:33:29] above ground missions he has to legally attach himself to various agencies so it's not uh vigilante
[00:33:37] ish maybe possibly it's just interesting that they have well he's definitely not a vigilante
[00:33:42] because he's licensed he's just not under an agency so he is essentially his own agency so i guess that
[00:33:48] means y'all he has to like file his own paperwork cover all his own damages stuff like that and that
[00:33:54] and that may be why he attaches himself on these bigger missions so he's like i don't feel like
[00:33:59] doing paperwork i'm gonna just say i'm with them for the moment yeah honestly fair paperwork is awful
[00:34:06] it's the worst also we know this mission is going to cause hella damages so i don't want to
[00:34:12] pay for that yeah so much so much insurance that i don't feel like doing the paperwork for
[00:34:18] no thank you mm-hmm mm-hmm yeah i wish we got a closer look of all of that but i'm just gonna
[00:34:25] have to imagine it in my head and write fanfiction yep yes you are the the my hero academia insurance
[00:34:30] claims agency that's that's what oh my god i'm sure everybody's fanfic the amount of like pulling

[00:35:01] in a world with superheroes it did not last very long but i i can see it was ahead of its time

[00:35:48] way um but it's like following in that path and there's also katsuki silhouette behind iron
[00:35:55] bat mites and it's amazing and it's perfect and i love it and i'm sad it's oh lord things are things
[00:36:03] are just happening too quickly it's like this is already those chapters are already about to get
[00:36:08] published and i feel like i literally just read them even though it's been a while and we did
[00:36:12] literally just read them yesterday it feels like and not six months ago uh huh uh huh i just oh man
[00:36:20] i also it's just so beautiful like katsuki being behind him and supporting him the guy who
[00:36:27] you know he always looked up to when everything comes full circle i don't know it's just great
[00:36:30] it's wonderful whoever did it needs a raise and a bonus um and yes maria we know we're
[00:36:36] being silly but you love us so it's fun it's fun to watch y'all head down the uh emotional
