MHA Season 4, Ep 3: YA CRINGE

Hey y'all! Join us as we discuss the My Hero Academia episode "Boy Meets...", including Fern's beef with a fictional character, 90's yaoi, and a Science Corner about Nighteye's Quirk, Foresight. You can find spoilers and TWs on our website, myheroanalysis.com. Thanks for listening!

[00:00:00] Hey y'all, quick note, while My Hero Academia was created for kids, this podcast is not safe

[00:00:05] for work or children. All trigger warnings and spoilers for each episode can be found

[00:00:10] at our website, myheroanalysis weird doing these notes before Fern. Oh God, I can't speak. Before Fern. Usually Fern does the notes and then we all do our thing and I'm the last one.

[00:01:40] So I actually had to do my notes on time this time.

[00:01:44] Yeah, I screwed up your whole thing.

[00:01:48] I know. Please don't. That's dangerous on a number of worlds. I'll risk it. It'll be fine. I'm untillable, remember? That's true. Yeah, I, it's just the caffeine for me. Yeah. Alright, well for our news and fan are not caught up, Maria, there are also like no other big spoilers for this particular episode. So we will let y'all know when we get to the big spoiler section,

[00:04:21] but we will probably only be discussing the movie. So have fun.

[00:04:26] I'll catch up eventually.

[00:05:23] due to their major secondhand embarrassment. Crippling, absolutely crippling.

[00:05:26] Like brings me to my knees is physically painful.

[00:05:30] You poor dear, it's okay, we support you.

[00:05:34] And then of course we'll hand it over to Maria

[00:05:36] for her science corner.

[00:05:37] If there is one, I did not check

[00:05:39] because I am bad at my job.

[00:05:42] Oh, there is and it's long.

[00:05:44] Yay, exactly. It's a good one.

[00:05:45] I skimmed over it.

[00:05:47] I can't wait to like dive in. strike against him. But to get into actually pertinent information, the reason that Nai Dai didn't find Izuku funny when interesting to watch like the adults and the teenagers go off. And it's like people, they're 15. It's not worth your time.

[00:08:20] It's like people, honey, go touch grass or go eat something because apparently your blood

[00:08:25] sugar is low because you're arguing with a child. And then we meet from true nemesis, the stamp seal, which is, uh, from what I understand a Japanese alternative to signatures where they essentially will stamp forms and paperwork with like a personalized or a unique kanji in place of their long hand signature.

[00:09:40] Yeah.

[00:09:41] I wish I had a stamp.

[00:09:42] Honestly, it would make all of the official paperwork I have to deal It's what involves the stamp seal that I literally just can't watch. It's too embarrassing. I can't do it. I can't do it. Also, fun fact, the European equivalent is a signet ring. I'm sure a lot of other cultures have something similar. I don't know how normalized it is in Japan.

[00:11:01] Maybe this is something that everybody uses all the time. question. Like I was surprised how much it was a normal question. Nai Nai instead challenges Izuku to physically take his stamp seal from his hand in what Mirio and Bubble Girl refer to as a practical interview. No. And Izuku, he

[00:12:21] doesn't do great because of Nai Nai's quirk called foresight.

[00:12:26] And then we get the present mic explanation. And he says that her to prove himself to night eye. Leave my poor broccoli boy alone. He already puts enough pressure on himself every day, all day, every hour, every minute, every second. Literally. God, it's such a fucking rude ass bitch. Like seriously, dude? Yeah, he's the worst and he's so cringy at the same time.

[00:13:44] Like sir, not sir.

[00:13:46] What's the opposite of sir? There's face plants right into a wall and three minutes and and Izuku technically fails his so-called practical interview. Oh god, I forgot about the face plant. My poor baby. I have definitely face planted before. It's not fun. Oh god.

[00:15:00] I wasn't embarrassed just like dazed and confused.

[00:15:04] Yeah.

[00:15:05] Yeah.

[00:15:06] It's like, how did I end up on the ground as an adult?

[00:15:08] What happens? touch the merch. And then of course, cause he's a bitch, NaiDai reveals that he's like a real stickler, AKA a real bitch about wording and semantics. And he will indeed take Izuku on,

[00:16:20] even though he did not pass the so-called practical,

[00:16:23] but he only wants to take him on to make him realize

[00:16:27] essentially that he is currently the number three hero and the invitation seemingly comes out of nowhere, but you know, birds and feathers and all that the Nai-dai agency is working on an investigation into surprise, surprise, not baby. I am ignoring it until it's in my face. Yeah. Yeah. That's what you got to do. All right. So moving along to a few things that were of note to me. These are probably going to be different than what Fern chose.

[00:20:21] That's a good thing though.

[00:20:22] It mixes it up.

[00:20:23] Yeah, I guess.

[00:20:24] All right.

[00:20:25] So apparently this season came out in 2019 and I am decrepit. like if that's what you're aiming for you fucking knocked it out of the park but woof but also get out all right so next Eizuku's animation is no longer bugging me so whoever animated him in the last episode I hope you got a nice vacation and are now doing better obviously or if

[00:21:41] it was just a one-off I hope you never come back not sorry so I started giggling Gran Torino's style halfway through the so-called practical interview. And NaiDai again insults him about it. And like on a personal level, me and NaiDai would not be a good mentor-mentee partnership with my RSD and my PDA. Also of course he's inferior to Gran Torino since he's a student and not a pro hero.

[00:23:05] You absolute buffoon.

[00:23:06] Seriously, like he's very important. They are bithles in the making. Yes. God, their dynamic is perfect. And now we're going right into Maria's science corner.

[00:24:20] Take it away.

[00:24:21] Science.

[00:24:22] So I know how much both of you hate Night light, but need some sort of anchor to be able to look into the future, which is the case with him

[00:25:45] touching a person, which possibly causes his quirk to react. Oh, the connections have made themselves. I'm gonna write this down. The one time the ADHD did not fail me. Yes. All right, so we are now going to move along to the discussion topics. And first of all, we have to get this out of the way, but Nai-Dai is drawn like he's in 1990s Yowie

[00:27:01] and I can't unsee it.

[00:27:04] 90s Yowie is something else.

[00:27:06] It is.

[00:28:02] But also sometimes, you know, we all have, we all know about my thing where I don't like appendages

[00:28:05] flapping in ways they shouldn't flap.

[00:28:08] So.

[00:28:08] Yeah. His fingers are rather flappy.

[00:28:12] And I don't even-

[00:28:13] A little bit.

[00:28:14] I don't even care if it's hyper flexibility

[00:28:16] or hyper mobility.

[00:28:17] Just put them away.

[00:28:21] I bet all might love those fingers though.

[00:28:23] Get nasty. We ain't talking about that yet.

[00:28:27] That's next up. been essentially a non-entity within the criminal underworld. Chizuki's movements have drawn attention, but there have been like no outright hero physical fights that the society has kind of gotten used to in pointing out folks who are villains. But of course now we see that the world

[00:29:41] is actually much more three-dimensional

[00:29:43] than the kids have grown up knowing.

[00:29:45] Excellent world building, on the science. I was like, I'm done. That's fair. That's very fair. Yeah, you were thinking about the speed of light. You're going to pass. Yeah, for real. All right. So now for manga, for chapter 128, the scene in the dorms is actually anime only. And thank God they added it. It's perfection. Aw. Also, it's revealed that Bubble Girl is 17 years younger than Nai-dai.

[00:32:20] She's 21 and he's 38 and I will continue to be mad forever.

[00:32:26] My only consolation is that NIDA knows what choices someone will make for the next hour. But then next episode we learn more about what the consequences of that is. And I don't know how the time limit and what we learn

[00:33:40] next time like lines up. I guess we'll see so much but it's such a good season, I love it. It's so fucking good. All right and now for the big spoiler section. Again, I didn't really see anything that was big spoilery

[00:35:01] for the stuff that has not been animated yet,

[00:35:04] funnily enough since it is an episode

[00:35:06] that bears so much weight on future arcs Yeah. So from what I remember and from what I was able to pick up from the trailer, I didn't really try and find anybody else doing analysis on it, mainly because I was tired. But what we're told, essentially, after All Might beats A. Yeah, yeah, that would make sense. And that like one to two week period after Izuku comes back, but before the main, or the second war, like starts at the parking garage, I think that's when it's going to

[00:37:41] be taking place. because the adults are doing fucking nothing. It's fine. It's fine. Well, the adults are busy with everything else. Sure, but also anyway. So they come in and they're fighting and everyone's fighting this villain. And the trailer ends with him like he's taking off his mask.

[00:39:00] And then the last thing we see is that he like

[00:39:02] has fixed his hair and it's exactly like

[00:39:04] All Might's two little bunny ears.

[00:39:07] And like, it's gonna fit in pretty well, but it's like, that's a very bad two weeks. That's too much, too much going on. I need an app for them. Oh, Lord. Yeah. Maria, are you still there? I am. I was just like listening because I haven't watched the trailer, so I had no input.

[00:40:20] Okay. Gotcha. Gotcha. Yeah, she has, she it is a formula that you do not prefer, but it should not happen again. No, we're probably gonna get like a million emails and they're gonna be like,

[00:41:41] hey, can Nicole do this from now on? Fern sucks.

[00:41:44] They're gonna be like, why is she saying, um, every four words?
